People complain when they feel like nobody is listening to them. In fact the more certain they are that nobody is listening, the more frustrated they become. That’s why one of the basic rules of communication for dealing with angry or frustrated people is to repeat their complaint back to them. You do this in a way that helps them understand you’re listening.
It’s such a simple first step and one that we would all benefit from practicing more often when things begin to breakdown.
